Bank Muscat gender diversity initiatives gain momentum

MUSCAT, 17 October 2016 - Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in step with its 'Let's Do More' vision and commitment to partnership in gender diversity initiatives, marked the Omani Women's Day in appreciation of the valuable contributions of women to the family, society and nation.

The human resources policy pursued by Bank Muscat is distinct for gender diversity as 48 per cent of employees are women holding various positions, including senior management positions.

AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive, said: “On the occasion of Omani Women's Day, Bank Muscat is proud to acknowledge the valuable contributions made by Omani women for the progress and development of Oman. As the nation's premier financial institution, Bank Muscat provides all support for women employees to realise their full potential in career and life. In keeping with its leadership position, the bank strives to set an example in all activities as the gender diversity initiatives go hand-in-hand with the progressive policies pursued by the government, stemming from the fact that nearly 50 per cent of Omani population comprises women."

AbdulRazak Ali Issa added: “Aimed at creating a sustainable future for the country, Bank Muscat provides excellent career opportunities and supports all major development programmes targeted at women, who are assuming more responsibilities and senior positions. The success stories of women employees prove that the bank has paved the way for a promising future aimed at sustaining superior achievements by women throughout the coming years."

The bank supports women employees for career achievements by offering educational and training opportunities within and outside Oman. A cross-section of the bank's women employees echoed appreciation of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for the support extended to Omani women in all spheres. Nawal bint Mohammed al Maktoomi, who has been working with Bank Muscat since 2007 and is currently holding the position of Branch Manager – Liwa, said: “The Royal directive designating a day in appreciation of Omani woman is a clear evidence of His Majesty's attention to provide Omani women with all support to make valuable contributions to the nation."

Zuwaina Abdullah Al Sharji, Manager – Meethaq, has been working with Bank Muscat for the past 11 years and feels the bank has helped her to greatly improve her managerial and leadership skills by enrolling her in various training programmes. “The leadership role in Bank Muscat is challenging, but the professional and friendly environment has helped me to tackle challenges. My focus is to offer superior services to valued customers and sustain the bank's growth momentum," she added.

Marwa Ibrahim Saleh joined the bank in 2006 and is presently Manager - MBD Branch.  “The bank offers a healthy environment and all required support to achieve one's career ambitions. The bank has helped me to acquire leadership skills and I hope to further develop these skills to make valuable contributions to the bank's success and the country's progress," Marwa said.

The participation is voluntary and optional.

In step with smarter strategies aimed at providing a distinct banking experience, Bank Muscat offers exclusive rewards and prizes for women in al Mazyona Savings Scheme.

The bank is all set to reward Zeinah women customers with a special prize draw coinciding with the Omani Women's Day. The exclusive al Mazyona draw for Zeinah customers offers a total prize money of RO 100,000 to be shared by 10 winners across Oman. Customers maintaining a monthly balance of RO 1000 are eligible to participate in the special draw and every extra RO 100 gives an extra chance to win.

Reaching out to women entrepreneurs, al Wathbah, the bank's SME department, has launched various skill development programmes.
