Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in step with its vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to partnership in supporting youth and promoting Oman as a sporting nation, celebrated the inauguration of the 58th football field developed as part of its Green Sports initiative in the wilayat of Bidiyah in North Sharqiyah governorate. The guest of honour, H.E. Sheikh Hilal Said Hamdan Al Hajri, Governor of South Batinah presented the Green Sports football field to the Al Zamalek Sports Team in the presence of a number of dignitaries and senior bank officials.
H.E. Sheikh Hilal Said Hamdan Al Hajri praised the role of the private sector in supporting youth programmes, in particular the role of Bank Muscat, in supporting sports activities and helping build high quality sports infrastructure across the nation. He said that the Green Sports Field initiative was a good example of private-public partnership in contributing to the overall development of the country. He added that it would inspire a new generation of sporting heroes and congratulated the Al Zamalek team on the occasion of the handover.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah bin Juma Al Araimi, Regional Manager – Sharqiyah North, said: “This is a proud achievement for Bank Muscat and this unique CSR initiative reiterates the bank’s commitment to develop modern sports infrastructure across Oman. We hope to support the Government in building a sporting nation and also contribute to sustainable development and all-round progress.”
Mubarak Haboob al Hajiri, Team Manager of the Al Zamalek Team, said: “We are thankful to Bank Muscat for this vital contribution to developing Omani sports talent. The Green Sports initiative is a big boost for the country’s youth and we are confident that many youngsters will benefit from this programme.”
Mohammed Rashid Al Hajri, Team Secretary of the Al Zamalek Team added: “The Green Sports initiative will surely benefit both youngsters as well as the community at large. We are hopeful that this will be a major reason for the emergence of Oman as a sporting nation in the near future.”
The Green Sports initiative aimed at promoting Oman as a sporting nation by greening and developing football fields has benefited a total of 93 sports teams across the country to date. The programme has spread across the entire nation, reinforcing the bank’s leadership role in social responsibility. Marking the 8th year of the unique CSR initiative, the bank will support the development of 15 football fields across the Sultanate in 2019.
The scope of Green Sports support for sports teams include greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf, floodlights or water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports support is extended to develop sustainable sports infrastructure in all parts of the Sultanate. As the nation’s leading financial institution, Bank Muscat aims to provide the impetus for youth to excel in all arenas and thereby contribute to the development and progress of Oman.
