MUSCAT, 2 July 2012 – BankMuscat, the flagship financial institution in the Sultanate, felicitated the Oman hockey team which recorded an impressive performance as runner-up in the 4th Asian Hockey Federation Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. For the first time, Oman also rallied to qualify for the Asia Cup. Salim Al Kaabi, DGM – HR, handed over the commendation support to Eng. Dawood Ahmed Ali, Chairman of Oman Hockey Association, at a ceremony held at the Bank's head office.
Sheikh Khalid bin Mustahail Al Mashani, Chairman of BankMuscat, said: “We are proud of the talented Omani hockey players, who after surpassing difficult hurdles achieved impressive results. This marks the beginning of a new era for the development of hockey in Oman. We congratulate the hockey association for doing a great job in promoting the game of hockey in the Sultanate."

As the nation's leading financial institution, BankMuscat aims to strongly convey the message of support to the national team so as to also motivate others to follow suit and provide the required impetus for the team to excel in the game. We look forward to seeing Oman hockey achieving greater honour and scaling new highs."
The Chairman added: “True to its commitment to supporting varied sporting activities in the country, which have flourished under the guidance and vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, BankMuscat remains at the forefront in offering the required encouragement and support for the national team to put up their best efforts. We believe that big corporates which benefited from the country's Renaissance should contribute positively and support in raising the Omani flag in achieving the dreams of Oman, to see the country excelling in the Asian Cup championship."
Eng. Dawood Ahmed Ali, Chairman of Oman Hockey Association, said: “We are grateful to BankMuscat for its generous gesture towards the national hockey team. The initiative reflects the Bank's support for youth which is a major force in Oman."
BankMuscat is also a major supporter of the national football. The Bank was the first corporate to announce financial support to Oman national football team playing in the Asian qualifier for 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil and 2012 Olympics in London. During the 17th, 18th and 19th GCC Cup tournaments, BankMuscat led by example, being the first private sector institution to announce cash bonanza for the national team.
