Bank muscat presents ‘Jesr al Mustaqbal’ (Bridge to Future) scholarships

MUSCAT, 23 September 2012 - bank muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, organised a ceremony to present  ‘Jesr al Mustaqbal’ (Bridge to future) scholarships to Omani youth who have enrolled for various courses at the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS). The event was attended by senior bank officials and parents of scholarship beneficiaries. 

Early this year, the bank launched ‘Jesr Al Mustaqbal’ programme in execution of the directive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to provide relevant educational and training opportunities to Omani youth to develop employable skills.  The comprehensive programme launched as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aims at offering study and vocational training sponsorships for young Omanis - both male and female from low-income and limited income families who have not been able to complete their education for various reasons.


Salim Al Kaabi, DGM – Human Resources Management, congratulated the scholarship beneficiaries and said: “Jesr al Mustaqbal scholarship programme has been well prepared to ensure the realisation of the objective to offer new opportunities to Omani youth to complete their education. The aim is to help young Omanis to receive proper education and vocational training that will enable them to develop employable skills and improve their living standards, social and economic status. This will also encourage them to positively participate in the service of society and development of the country.”
 

The scholarship beneficiaries thanked and appreciated bank muscat on the unique initiative which provided them with the opportunity to pursue higher education. Eman bint Nasser al Toki, who has enrolled at CBFS to major in Financial Accounting, said this was a rare opportunity to supplement her education and achieve her dream. “This opportunity opens new horizons for my future and career. I will make every effort to achieve positive results and excel in my studies to ensure a good future for myself and my family.”
Mahran Abdulkarim Al Balushi said he was very happy to receive the scholarship which will help him in his future career advancement. He congratulated bank muscat on this national initiative in support of Omani youth to achieve their dreams. “I will do my best to excel in my studies and give back to the country for this humanitarian initiative.”

Ashwaq bint Said Al Kalbani said: “I came to know about ‘Jesr Al Mustaqbal’
through the media. I am very happy to be selected for this scholarship which will supplement my education and help me to secure a bright future. I am determined to excel in my studies and achieve positive results. I look forward to attain appropriate qualifications and join bank muscat.”

Moayied Ahmed Al Zadjali said the scholarship will open
a bright future for him. “I thank bank muscat for this opportunity to lay a strong foundation for my life.”


Al Kaabi added: “bank muscat is committed to its corporate social responsibility and thereby contribute towards sustainable development by working closely with local communities with the aim of improving living standards in a manner that serves the national economy and development process at the same time. The scholarship programme will help students from weaker sections of society to acquire employable skills, guaranteeing economic independence to them.”

Considered among core values, the CSR policy stems from the bank’s strong belief in the importance of social responsibility. It reflects the bank’s concern and care for various segments of society. The bank is of the view that its social responsibility is not merely participation in charitable works and organisation of voluntary campaigns, but responsibility towards all-round development of society.

As part of ‘Jesr Al Mustaqbal’ programme, Omani youth from low-income families are undergoing training in foreign exchange transactions to be employed with a leading exchange company. Upon successful completion of the training programme, they will be absorbed in different branches of the exchange company on a starting monthly salary of RO 300.

In another ‘Jesr Al Mustaqbal’ initiative, the bank supported the training of vision impaired Omani artisans in the fields of pottery and ceramic craft and hosted an exhibition at the bank’s head office showcasing their works, which evoked a big response.

To ensure the continuity and success of the unique programme, the bank has set aside 20 per cent of its CSR budget for ‘Jesr Al Mustaqbal’. Scholarships are earmarked for students from all provinces in the country in the ratio of 60 per cent to interior regions and 40 per cent to Muscat region.​
