MUSCAT, 10 February 2020
In line with its commitment to supporting Omani youth and promoting the Sultanate as a sporting nation, Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, has started field visits by its Green Sports committee to review the shortlisted Green Sports applications from the large number of sports teams who have applied for support. In 2020, the bank will support the greening and infrastructure development of 15 football fields across the Sultanate as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability programmes.
The 2020 Green Sports programme evoked an excellent response with 77 sports teams submitting applications for greening and infrastructure development of their football fields. Ever since its inception in 2012, the bank’s flagship CSR programme has gained momentum with a large number of applicants every year.
Bank Muscat has so far completed handover of 65 football fields developed as part of the Green Sports initiative. The unique CSR initiative reiterates the bank’s commitment to develop modern sports infrastructure across the Sultanate in such a way it benefits the youth as well as the local communities it is based in. Complementing government efforts in building a sporting nation, the initiative is aimed at contributing to sustainable development and all-round progress in Oman.
The Green Sports initiative has benefited a total of 108 sports teams across the country to date. The programme has spread across the entire nation, reinforcing the bank’s leadership role in social responsibility. Marking the 9th year of the unique CSR initiative, the bank will support the development of 15 football fields across the Sultanate in 2020.
The scope of Green Sports support for sports teams include greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf or floodlights or installation of water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports support is extended to develop sustainable sports infrastructure in all parts of the Sultanate.
