Bank Muscat extends support to Sayyid Abbas Golf Tournament

MUSCAT, 24 December 2019
In line with its vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to promoting sports and community activities, Bank Muscat extended its strong support to the prestigious Sayyid Abbas Golf tournament. The tournament, which was held under the patronage of Sayyid Azzan Bin Qais Al Said at the Ghala Golf Club recently from 13 till 14 December, witnessed good participation from some of the top golfers in the country.

Abdulnasir Al Raisi, DGM – Premier Banking, Bank Muscat, said: “Bank Muscat attaches great importance to supporting initiatives aimed at contributing to the country’s progress and development in all areas, including sports. The bank places particular emphasis on sports activities especially for the youth of the country and supports many sports activities and youth championships across the country.”
He added: “We are very happy and proud to partner with Ghala Golf Club to promote Oman as an upcoming golfing destination. The bank remains committed to shouldering its developmental and social responsibilities within the framework of co-operation and support to all segments of society.”

Bank Muscat has previously extended strong support to different sports activities in the country as part of its social responsibility initiatives. Notable among them is the Green Sports CSR programme, which is an ongoing project to develop green football fields across the Sultanate. It aims at supporting Oman’s youth who represent the future of the country. The Green Sports programme, which was launched by Bank Muscat in 2012, has gained momentum with a total of 108 sports teams across the Sultanate benefiting from the bank’s support till date and 64 Green Sports Fields having already been inaugurated so far.

Green Sports is a good example of public-private partnerships, which complement the development initiatives undertaken by the Government of Oman. The scope of Green Sports support for teams include greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turfs, installation of floodlights or water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports support is extended to develop sustainable sports infrastructure across the Sultanate.

Registration for 2020 is currently open and sports teams who wish to benefit from the programme can submit their applications by 1 January 2020. Marking the 9th year of the unique CSR programme, the bank will support the development of a further 15 football fields across the Sultanate in 2020.
