Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in step with its vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to strengthen support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), marked the graduation of the fifth batch of al Wathbah Academy in Nizwa under the auspices of Abdullah Bin Saif Al Shandodi, Head of the Commerce and Industry department, Nizwa. Twelve entrepreneurs from Dakhiliyah governorate successfully completed the SME training programme to acquire accredited international certification.
Hamdan Bin Hamood Al Bimani, Regional Manager - North Dakhiliya branches, in his welcome address noted that the unique al Wathbah Academy programme reflects the bank’s commitment to sustainable social development, strengthening the role of SMEs in the economic development of Oman. al Wathbah Academy programmes are organised across Oman to impart the required skills and guidance for entrepreneurs drawn from diverse fields to embark on successful SME business ventures, he added.
Fatma Al Maskiry, AGM – SME Credit, Marketing and Regional Corporates, said: “Bank Muscat congratulates all enterprising entrepreneurs who successfully completed the al Wathbah Academy programme. The main objective of the bank’s SME strategy is to play an important role in filling the gaps and empowering entrepreneurs to chart successful business ventures by providing necessary training, guidelines and tools. We appreciate the determination and commitment of the successful graduates to follow their business dreams by acquiring the required skills and knowledge through the unique programme. The academy marks a clear progression of the well-defined strategy pursued by the bank in line with the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to support the SME sector.”
The al Wathbah Academy graduates in Nizwa represented a wide range of sectors, including poultry farms, fuel station, tourism, private school, automobile repair and sale of parts, décor and marble, transportation, wood processing, real estate, construction, green house farming, agriculture, restaurant, coffee shops, Omani sweets and dental clinic.
Experienced faculty and consultants conducted the 8-months al Wathbah Academy programme, leading to accredited international certification by Project Management Institute (PMI).
Alya Al Nabhani who spoke on behalf of the graduating batch, thanked Bank Muscat for the unique opportunity in gaining accredited international certification in SME development. The training focused on key aspects of finance management and marketing initiatives essential to chart successful business ventures, she said adding that the successful completion of the training programme at al Wathbah Academy would serve as a launching pad for diverse start-up business initiatives by Omani youth.
