Bank Muscat mobile banking crosses 100,000 customers milestone

MUSCAT -17th July 2013   Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, hosted a celebration to mark the milestone of 100,000 customers for its award-winning mobile banking services. The 100,000th customer who registered for mBanking joined the celebrations held in Salalah.

Tariq Atiq, AGM – Cards & eBanking, said: “Bank Muscat is proud to welcome the 100,000th customer for the unique mBanking services. This milestone has been achieved within a short span of time and the consistently growing number of customers reflects the high popularity of mBanking. The majority of customers are utilising the 'anytime, anywhere' mBanking for conducting day-to-day financial transactions."

Tariq Atiq added: “At Bank Muscat, we strive to innovate products and services to provide unmatched benefits to customers while keeping the focus on convenience and security. mBanking has recorded massive success both in terms of usage and customer adoption since it was launched and we will continue to add exciting elements to this service."

Soon after its launch in 2012, mBanking also won the coveted His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government in the category of the Best Public Mobile Service. For the first time, the 2012 Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government was opened for the private sector organisations. A total of 57 projects were presented by 30 governmental and private institutions for the awards. Of the two awards earmarked for the private sector, Bank Muscat won the Best Public Mobile Service Award.

mBanking recently won the 'Best Mobile Payment Application in the Middle East' award, at a ceremony held in Dubai as part of the Cards & Payments 2013 Middle East seminar, which is reckoned the largest cards payment and identification event in the Middle East.

The bank's initiative to provide banking services via mobile phone complements the government's efforts in creating a digital society and providing electronic services which spell convenience to customers. Bank Muscat enjoys an edge in hi-tech products and services, including electronic payment and web-based services, in tune with the banking requirements of a young, tech-savvy generation.

Bank Muscat's state-of-the-art mobile banking application redefines banking with the concept of 'anytime, anywhere' service. With mBanking, Bank Muscat has made banking truly mobile for the largest banking family in Oman who can bank 24/7 'anytime, anywhere'. Notably, the mBanking application works on most of the mobile phones and is customised for iPhones, Blackberry, Android and Java based phones with simple icons and menus. The mBanking application is available in both English and Arabic.

The mBanking transactions include access to account to view balance and mini statement, transfer funds between Bank Muscat accounts, pay bills, including credit card, utility, mobile top-up, school fee payment etc. Using mBanking, customers can also apply for Bank Muscat products and view latest promotions, find nearest ATM / CDM and branches. They can also connect with the bank on Facebook and Twitter.

mBanking has attracted a large number of customers as it does away with the requirement to visit the bank or wait in queues at branches for various transactions. Driven by the latest technological features and offering a wide range of options, mBanking presents a unique facility from Bank Muscat that lets customers bank at convenience from 'anywhere, anytime'. For people constantly on the move, mBanking service is a boon.

mBanking application is available free of cost and the only cost that applies to customers is the network usage levied by telecom service providers. mBanking is user friendly. The interface is very simple and all that customers need to do is just follow the instructions to make a transaction.

mBanking can be accessed from any location supported by the telecom service provider and is highly secure as the application does not store any sensitive information or transaction logs on the phone. The mBanking registration is allowed only on the mobile number registered with the bank. In case customers need to update the mobile number registered with the bank, they can contact the Call Center on 24795555 or submit a written application to the bank for the same.
