Bank Muscat, ROP join hands to launch state-of-the-art biometric customer ID system

MUSCAT, 8 September 2014 – In collaboration with the Royal Oman Police (ROP), Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, introduced a state-of-the-art biometric system compatible with the national identification card (NID). Major General Sulaiman bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Financial and Administrative Affairs, unveiled the new system introduced for the first time in the banking sector in Oman, in the presence of AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive, senior bank and ROP officials.

The biometric identification system available across the network of 138 branches provides the latest solutions in national identity during banking services. Aimed at improving efficiency and speed of transaction processing, the NID enables accurate data capture during banking transactions, especially when opening new accounts.

The new facility enhances customer experience with a one-touch customer identification and transaction authentication process. In line with the e-governance initiative of the government, the new facility is faster, convenient and risk free for secure banking transactions.

Major General Sulaiman bin Mohammed Al Harthy congratulated Bank Muscat for collaborating with the ROP in introducing the biometric system in all branches which would enhance service to customers and the general public, adding that the new system would ensure secure transactions. Major General Al Harthy emphasised the importance of investment in latest technologies to facilitate innovative services. Over the years, the ROP has introduced various services using modern technologies, benefiting citizens, he added.

To authenticate banking transactions, the national identification card is required to be inserted in the biometric machine and customers have to validate their identity by scanning their finger print on the machine. The one-touch process is convenient, faster and risk-free for secure transactions. The unique facility is available across the entire network of branches across the Sultanate.
