Here’s an easy way to save, and make your money grow a lot further. Introducing the Al Nama Monthly Investment Plan. Set aside as little as OMR 50 every month, invest in the international stock market, and enjoy maximum returns!

The Al Nama Monthly Investment Plan
In conjunction with Fidelity Investments, BankMuscat has set up a monthly investment plan giving you the opportunity to invest in international stock markets in a straightforward, low cost, flexible way - the Al Nama Monthly Investment Plan.

About Fidelity Investments?
Fidelity Investments are the world’s biggest independent fund management group. They manage the investments of over 17 million people, amounting to over $1000 billion. With their experience and expertise, you can be rest assured that your money is in safe hands.

How does the Al Nama plan work?
The plan involves making regular monthly contributions, which we invest for you in Fidelity’s International Fund. You decide on the amount, which could be anything from OMR 50 to OMR 500, and we debit this amount automatically from your account every month. Fidelity Investments then invests your money in shares of companies from all around the world. The fund managers study and analyse the market continually to ensure that they invest your money in sate, solid companies with the potential for rapid growth, so as to maximise the return on your investment.

What returns can I expect?
Funds of this type work in a very different manner, when compared to deposits. Ultimately you are investing in real assets, and so the value of this type of investment will fluctuate - it can go down as well as swing up. This means that we cannot quote an expected rate of return. However, we have the benefits of a proven track record. The fund returned to investors in the past 6 years were:

1995     -  17.6% 1998     -  26.3%
1996     -  17.2% 1999     -  43.6%
1997     -  17.3% 2000     -   (19.0)%

This figure is after Fidelity Investments have accounted for their annual management fees.

How do I keep track of my investment?
A statement shall be sent once in three months to let you know exactly how many units you hold at that time, and the value of your total investment. Should you wish to know the value of your investment at any other time, you can telephone the BankMuscat Private Banking Division. Details available in Contact us.

What about charges?
The cost of investing each contribution is covered by an initial fee, levied when the investment is made. The amount of the initial charge varies according to your monthly contributions:

  • For contributions below OMR 250, this will be 5.00%
  • Between OMR 250 and OMR 500 it will be 4.00%
  • For contributions OMR 500 and above per month it will be 3.50%

Remember, that this is a one-off fee on each contribution, regardless of how long the money remains invested.

What are the other benefits?
If you invest in the Al Nama Plan, you are entitled to a free BankMuscat Credit Card (conditions apply).  You also have the facility to pay monthly installments through your credit card.
