MUSCAT, 26 July 2010 – BankMuscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development on Monday (26 July) launched a national social initiative titled ‘Tadhamun’ as part of its commitment to corporate citizenship.
The objective of Tadhamun initiated by BankMuscat Hearts, an informal society of the Bank employees who conduct voluntary social work, is to address the requirements of homes of the needy. The beneficiary homes are those lacking basic home furniture (e.g. beds, sheets, chairs, tables); homes requiring repaint/rebuild parts or walls; homes lacking kitchen equipment (e.g. stove, refrigerator, utensils); homes that accommodate disabled persons and need providing disabled friendly environment.
The social campaign seeks to mobilise BankMuscat customers, staff and the general public to make donations to the noble cause. The beneficiaries will be selected with the help of the Ministry of Social Development which will also supervise the donation campaign. A dedicated Tadhamun account has been created to collect the funds. All donations can be made to the BankMuscat account number: 0324014363400012.
The campaign, which runs till October 2010, includes many activities and events during which donations will also be collected through sale of vouchers and bracelets. Fifty donation boxes have been kept at different branches of BankMuscat and shopping malls, including Safeer and Lulu hypermarkets, to facilitate public donations.
Hilal Ahmed Al Habsi, Department of Social Security at the Ministry of Social Development, said: “The Tadhamun initiative is yet another example of the public-private partnership to strengthen the hands of the needy. The ministry greatly values the support from private institutions to social programmes. Together as a nation we need to remember the less fortunate ones in society and make a difference in their lives through humanitarian gestures.”
Sulaiman Al Harthy, Group Deputy General Manager, Consumer Banking, said: “The donation campaign is conceived as a simple process, enabling everyone to participate without any financial burden. Supervised by the Ministry of Social Development, the Tadhamun initiative coinciding with the Holy Month of Ramadhan provides the platform as well as tools to collect and disburse funds to deserving beneficiaries. The basic premise of the campaign is that no matter how small the donation, it can transform someone’s life.”
The Tadhamun initiative aims to effectively reach out to all sections of society and unleash the culture of donation. A lot of activities are planned as part of the initiative to encourage people to generously donate to the cause. The desire to extend a helping hand to needy people is a general human attribute irrespective of one’s religion or nationality and BankMuscat is confident that the campaign will be strongly supported by all citizens and residents.
