MUSCAT - Building up the tempo of the 40th Renaissance anniversary celebrations, BankMuscat has launched a limited edition commemorative pre-paid card. A collector’s item, the ePayment card evocatively highlights the Bank’s ‘Oman Celebrates’ campaign in tribute to the 40 glorious years of the blessed Renaissance march.
Accepted locally and globally, the exclusive card has the benefits of a debit card without the need for an account with the Bank. Creating awareness on the wide range of BankMuscat card products and services, the ePayment card is aimed at motivating a change in consumer behaviour towards ‘payment by cards’ both a habit and a preference.
The year 2010 marks a milestone for Oman and BankMuscat attaches great significance to the occasion as reflected in its year-long ‘Oman Celebrates’ campaign. As on all significant national occasions, BankMuscat has taken the lead among corporates to set the tone for the 40th Renaissance anniversary celebrations.
Sulaiman Al Harthy, Group Deputy General Manager – Consumer Banking, said: “The ‘Oman Celebrates’ ePayment card ushers in convenience and is yet another proof of BankMuscat’s dominant position in launching innovative products and services. The electronic payment facility offered through BankMuscat’s extensive Point of Sales (PoS) network reflects the Bank's commitment to building a strong financial infrastructure in the Sultanate.”
Over the years, BankMuscat has leveraged technology to enrich the lives of people in Oman. The objective is to serve as a vital link, integrating government and commercial sectors to provide better and more efficient services and building a secure foundation for e-Commerce transactions. With the nation embarking on the e-Governance platform, the card acquiring facility offered by BankMuscat marks a primary step in moving towards that objective.
Ever since BankMuscat commenced its card acquiring operations in 2002, many milestones have been achieved with the support of partners and customers. Presently, BankMuscat is the largest acquirer and issuer of cards in Oman with its PoS network spread across the country, and continues to expand rapidly.
Early this year, BankMuscat launched an e-Payment card for corporates. The electronic chip-based pre-paid card branded as ‘e-Cash’ is primarily aimed for fee-based transactions at government establishments in Oman. The e-Cash cardholder has the advantage of carrying an offline card without the need to maintain an account with the Bank. This year, the Bank also launched a limited edition 2010 FIFA World Cup ePayment pre-paid card.
In step with the government’s ambitions eOman initiative, BankMuscat has been at the forefront, facilitating electronic card payments for services rendered by various government departments, including the Royal Oman Police (ROP). Notably, BankMuscat is the first card-acquiring bank to support the electronic payment network for goods and services offered by the government.
