Internet security measures

BankMuscat employs various security measures to ensure that your transactions and personal information are protected. However, you as a customer can also play a big part in protecting your banking and personal information.

To help you, we have developed a number of tips and hints covering the areas of:

• Online security
• Encryption
• Firewalls
• Automatic time-outs
• Two Password Authentication.

Online security

• BankMuscat employs a range of security measures to assist in protecting your personal account information.
• These measures extend from data encryption to firewalls.
• The firewall, together with encryption technology, helps to provide some of the best security available to keep your password, account details and other sensitive information.

Encryption

• Encryption is turning words and numbers into a coded language. Encryption prevents unauthorised users from being able to change or read your data.
• BankMuscat encrypts your personal data using 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption technology.
• You can identify whether the Internet Banking session is secure or encrypted when you see https:// in the Address bar and/or when you see a padlock in the bottom right corner of the browser window.
• You can double click on the padlock to view the Digital Certificate i.e. the electronic signature to view details.

Firewalls

BankMuscat employs a firewall mechanism to prevent unauthorised access to and from the network.

Automatic time-outs

• Within the BankMuscat Internet Banking system, your banking session can remain unattended for a maximum of 10 minutes. After this time, the system automatically 'logs off' and ends your session.
• Remember, if you are not using your computer for a period of time, make sure you 'log out' completely.

Two Password Authentication.

• For most of the services are provided or referred to you by BankMuscat, we provide “Two Password Authentication” where in the customer has to enter both the Login “Password” and “Post Passphrase”.
• This provided additional level of security for gaining access to transaction level rights on Online Banking.
