BankMuscat offers RO 51,000 to the Oman football team to win its Asian Cup group matches

Salalah. July 8, 2007: BankMuscat SAOG, the nation’s leading bank, has once more promised to extend full support to the national football team by pledging a bounty of RO 51,000 if the team wins all three of their Group A matches in the 14th Asian Cup starting tomorrow in Bangkok, Thailand.

Speaking to newspersons in Salalah, Sheikh Khalid bin Mustahail Al Mashani, Deputy Chairman, BankMuscat said:

“Football is at the heart and soul of every Omani and we, as the nation’s leading bank, believe it is our duty to support and encourage our national team to do even better. This bounty is a token of our appreciation for all the hard work of our beloved team in making our nation proud. Team Oman, we are with you!”

Oman plays its opening match against Australia tomorrow, which arguably is the toughest match it will play on its way to the July 29 final of the Asian Cup. The other teams playing with Oman in Group A of the tournament are hosts Thailand and Iraq. Each game won by the team will attract a cash award of RO 500 per player from the Bank.

BankMuscat, it may be recalled, had similarly taken the lead in offering cash prizes to the Oman national football team last year following their sterling performance in the Gulf Cup 2006 held in UAE.
